Today is my son Tim 17th birthday. We opened a Pomerol Chateau La Cabanne 1989, his year of birth. Excellent potential but would benefit from another few years in the bottle. We drank it all up anyway, but not as good as the bottle we opened in December for Nina's birthday.

Today is my daughter Nina 20th birthday. We opened a cru bourgeois Saint Estephe, Chateau Laffitte Carcasset 1985, her year of birth. The wine was simply astonishing in depth and subtlety, an almost religious experience.
